Resources for Healthcare Professionals

IA was instrumental in the creation of specialist nurses within stoma care, and had the foresight to recognise this role would be vital in providing patients with the specialist care and knowledge they would require both pre and post-surgery.

Since the 1970s, IA has been working with stoma care nurses to improve the quality of life for people living with an ileostomy and later, internal pouch.

As a patient support group, IA understands the huge benefit that the specialist nurse brings to people who are due to undergo surgery or who have had surgery and are struggling with aspects of life.

Birmingham IA volunteers are always pleased to work with their local specialist nurses, some of whom have joined their committee and assist the local group in offering support.

IA offers a range of resources for stoma care nurses including:

  • Literature for your waiting rooms or patient visits
  • Quarterly journals to give to your patients who are new to surgery or looking for support
  • Request for an IA Trained Volunteer to speak to one of your patients
  • IA Volunteer support as requested at clinics.
  • Attend meetings and open days to offer support to patients

Alternatively join our mailing list and we’ll keep you up to date with IA’s products and services. To request any of these resources or to join our mailing list, please contact Mike Jameson, Chair of Birmingham IA. mike.jameson@iasupport.org
